Training and Development
The quality of our training is one of the many reasons why graduates choose Majestic as their first employer. Other obvious attractions include the youthful, vibrant culture; you're not sitting at a desk in an office all day and you can wear jeans to work. Plus the opportunity to learn about the fascinating world of wine.
As a Trainee Manager at one of our stores, you'll learn everything about the business including sales skills, merchandising, delivery, stocktaking and wine appreciation. Promotion is on merit and the opportunities are there for those who are ready to take them. You could find yourself as an Assistant Manager within a year and Store Manager after two years.
Whilst the majority of your training will take place in-store you will also attend one-day training courses at our Watford head office on everything from product knowledge to management skills. We'll also sponsor you through the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Advanced Certificate. There are further opportunities to go on to do the WSET Diploma.
Candidate criteria:
Successful Majestic recruits come from all backgrounds and academic disciplines. Some have a degree in economics, others have studied theatre studies. Some know what happens in a 'cuverie'. Others have only ever chosen wine by the price tag. Some know they want a career in the wine trade, others know only that they don't want to sit in an office.
In other words, our graduate recruits are all very different. But there's one thing they have in common - their attitude. They may not know the difference between a Bordeaux and a Burgundy but they're willing to learn. They may not feel like unloading five pallets of stock after a night on the town but they'll set to it cheerfully. They'll probably even have a laugh with the rest of the team while they're doing it. And if they spot a customer standing at a loss halfway down an aisle their immediate instinct will be to ask if they can help.
It's this attitude we're looking for when we recruit - much more so than retail experience, academic qualifications or wine knowledge. We don't expect you to be able to walk in and immediately know which white wines best fit a customer's description of 'light and buttery' but we do expect you to be enthusiastic, physically fit, a team player and able to act on your own initiative.
If you think you possess these qualities and would like to play a part in the next chapter of the Majestic story, we'd like to hear from you.
