Case Study
Case study: Linsey Macintyre Name: Linsey Macintyre
Role: Retail Graduate

There were many things that appealed to me I applied for the Graduate Programme at Morrisons - the main one being the rapid growth of the Company over the last few years and the potential this brings for employees like myself. As a Graduate I am training to become a Senior Manager and with the excellent prospects the Company has to offer I do not think it will stop there.

The things that I tend to enjoy most in my current role is being in a fast pace retail environment not knowing what is round the corner. Everyday is full of variety and always offers a challenge giving me a real sense of achievement when a plan comes together. Morrisons Fast Track graduate scheme appealed to me as soon as I became aware of it. It is a well structured programme covering all aspects of the business. It allows you to gain hands on experience. Included in the programme are various training courses which are designed to develop my skills in order to help me become a competent Senior Manager.

Although I am personally responsible for completing the programme and

getting the training I have support from the Senior team, Department Manager and the Training Department.

My advice to anyone who is thinking about applying for a place on the programme would be to be prepared to put in the effort - it can be hard work but the rewards you get from the role are excellent.

Case study: Peter Nickson Name: Peter Nickson
Role: Manufacturing Graduate

I currently work as Bacon department Manager at Farmers Boy, responsible for 270 staff with 2 deputy managers and 4 supervisors. My team support me in all aspects of the job. Future developments are exciting with numerous capital investment opportunities available to improve and develop systems within the bacon department.

My graduate training has given a broad range of knowledge in numerous management systems and manufacturing processes. I feel that this is key to my overall development. My training involved working through all production departments including Cheese, Sausage, Pie, Bacon, Retail Fresh Meats and Cooked meats.

My day consists of running the bacon department with an average of 95 staff per shift, this involves being responsible for throughput, yields, raw material planning and staffing queries on a general basis. Weekly the bacon department will produce 1.35 million packs per week on average.

Communication has been the key to my success. Be motivated and involve your team where possible as you will gain much respect for this. A positive attitude with staff helps to maintain and boost morale.

Information and FAQ

Qualification requirements:

Our qualification entry requirements are straightforward - but it’s your personality, passion, drive and energy that we will be looking at closely. As we’ve said, you are the future - a potential senior manager who will influence our business, lead people and make crucial decisions that will shape the environment you’re working in. So qualities and personality are something that we will be looking at closely. Retailing is hard work - involves working long hours and weekends - but is also highly involved and rewarding.

To join the Graduate Scheme you need:

  • A 2:1 or above in a relevant business related degree. Though candidates demonstrating exceptional aptitude with a degree in other areas will certainly be considered.
  • A valid permit to work in the UK.

In addition to this we are looking for leadership and good communication skills, customer focus, the ability to think through challenges and a teamwork approach.
