The Company:

Logica is a major international force in IT and business services. It employs around 40,000 people across 41 countries. Logica’s focus is on enabling its customers to build and maintain leadership positions using Logica’s deep industry knowledge and its track record for successful delivery. The company provides business consulting, systems integration and IT and business process outsourcing across diverse markets including telecoms and media, financial services, energy and utilities, industry, distribution and transport and the public sector.

The size and reach of our operations means we are able to offer a variety of career paths.

Graduates may be involved at any stage of the business lifecycle from business consultancy through system design and development, implementation and integration, testing and support to training, applications management and service operation and support.

Graduate training and profiles:

Your first experience on joining Logica will be our induction programme, which is the first of our graduate training courses. This will introduce you to the Logica way of doing business and developing people. After this short course you will start working, adding value to the business on a client project or through internal activities such as working on bids. During your first 12-18 months you will attend further courses covering a range of business and soft skills. These courses have been designed to build on the experience you gain on your assignments, and will help you develop some of the attributes that have proved vital for successful graduates in the past. If necessary you will be given the necessary technical training to carry out your role, but more often than not you will be learning on the job and being coached by your project colleagues.

Development is supported throughout your career with Logica, to meet the needs of the business and yourself. All staff are assigned a staff manager who is responsible for setting your objectives with you and regularly reviewing your performance. Objectives are designed to help you deliver against business requirements whilst developing your skills. Strengths can be developed and weaknesses addressed. Your staff manager is independent of your project work and, as such, is able to provide longer term career guidance. This will include your own individual training plan to meet your personal aspirations and can involve a range of technical, personal and Logica specific programmes.

Case Study

Role: Implementation Analyst - Industry, Distribution and Transport
"Four days into joining IDT I was asked to conduct some research into an application we would be demonstrating to a client. The client bought into it and, as I was their main contact, I helped manage its implementation. It was a massive challenge to take on, but the fact that Logica trusted my capabilities was both reassuring and a great confidence boost."

Information and FAQ
What are the entry requirements?

Ideally you’ll have a minimum first degree grade of 2:1 or above. However, we’ll consider you with a 2:2 if you have other relevant experience. We also welcome applications from candidates with relevant Masters degrees and PhDs.

We recruit from a range of disciplines including computer science and other numerate/ logical courses, business information systems, and other joint Honours degrees with a strong focus on business and IT. But if you have a genuine interest in technology you can join some areas of our business with a non-technical degree.

We don’t have a minimum UCAS tariff requirement.

How quickly will you get back to me once I’ve submitted my application?

We’ll acknowledge your application as soon as we receive it. And we’ll advise you of your progress as quickly as possible. How long this takes depends on the time of year. We run most of our assessment centres between January and May each year. But if we have no immediate opportunities we may keep your application on hold. However we will keep you updated as often as we can.

Do you take people who need a work permit?

We welcome applications from anyone who is legally entitled to work in the UK without restrictions. We regret that due to current Home Office guidelines we’re unable to sponsor work permits for graduate positions. Work permits are not currently needed for placement positions if you are an overseas student who is studying at a UK university.

What is the starting salary for graduates?

Our salary and benefits package reflects your technical knowledge, skills, individual performance and development - and regular reviews ensure we continue to recognise your progress. The starting salary for our 2008 intake has not been set, but for comparison our 2007 graduate starting salaries ranged from £19,250 to £23,000.

On top of this there’s a comprehensive flexible benefits package which includes 25 days’ holiday, a pension plan, home purchase plan, life assurance, health insurance, a relocation allowance, season ticket loans and share ownership schemes.

Where are you based in the UK?

We have offices throughout the UK and you can state location preferences on your application form. Most of our vacancies however are in South East England, South Wales, Reading, Manchester and Scotland. More information on locations.

However you’ll need to be flexible about your location as the nature of our work often means being based on client sites, which can be anywhere in the UK or worldwide.

Are there opportunities to travel abroad?

We’re a global company so opportunities for travel will arise as your career progresses. They depend on the projects available and whether or not you have the appropriate skills. Realistically you shouldn’t expect to work on an overseas project in your first couple of years - but there are always exceptions.

What is the dress code?

There is no set dress code. It all depends where you're based and what you're doing. Obviously, if you're on a client site you need to project a certain style. If you're not, then we tend to be pretty informal. It's what you feel comfortable in, within reason.

Do you recruit graduates for non-IT areas such as sales, marketing and HR?

We’re not currently recruiting for non-IT areas in the graduate market. Sales and marketing roles tend to be carried out by IT professionals who have the technical, business and marketing skills to sell our services with confidence and authority. We do occasionally have placement opportunities in HR and marketing and we advertise these on our website when they become available.

Vacancies in other support areas are advertised in the professional press as they become available.

Throughout the year we may recruit from non-technical disciplines for business and consultancy functions. We advertise these opportunities on our website, at careers services and in graduate publications. You might also find suitable vacancies through the non-graduate route. Search for details of our current non-graduate vacancies.
