The Company:
Agilent Technologies is the world's premier measurement company. Our teams of engineers create products that measure, sense and test, enabling innovation in the life sciences, electronics, chemical analysis and communications sectors for customers in more than 100 countries around the world. With revenues of US$5.1 billion in 2005, we have a wider global reach than any other provider of measurement technologies, and exciting career opportunities for talented individuals seeking careers in science.

As an ambitious, newly-qualified graduate with a degree in engineering, computer science or a related discipline, you'll be looking for an employer who can help you to shine. Agilent Technologies has opportunities for graduates to work in international, multi-disciplinary teams. Based initially in either the UK or Germany, you'll use your degree to create products that sense, measure, test and detect for our customers in the Telecommunications, Electronics and Life Sciences sectors.

The products you will work on will help to turn our customer's dreams into market-leading products such as MP3 players, wireless devices, mobile phones and telecommunications management systems…the list of innovations enabled by Agilent products is endless.

We are looking for graduates from educational institutions in Europe that have a recognised pedigree in sciences, and who have recently received good honours degrees in scientific subjects. Fluency in English is essential, and knowledge of other languages is advantageous. In 2007, we will be recruiting software engineers, field engineers, electronic engineers as well as a range of graduate positions in other disciplines.

We offer a competitive salary and a comprehensive package of benefits including results-based pay, pension scheme, cafeteria facilities and, on larger sites, sports and recreational facilities. Training and Development needs are assessed annually and training programmes are undertaken as part of career development opportunities.

So if you've got a good degree in computer science, electrical and electronic engineering or life sciences (biology, chemistry or biosciences), and you're looking to find a place where your career can shine, go to www.agilent.apply2jobs.com

Graduate training and profiles:
You'll start work at Agilent Technologies knowing that you are working at the forefront of scientific research. We are world leaders in telecoms network system management, data capture and data analysis, as well as leading the industry in radio frequency, signal source, signal analysis and a wide range of other disciplines. After an initial period spent learning the ropes, you can expect to be given training relevant to your field of research. Depending on your performance, you could end up being trained as a supervisor, manager and eventually leading larger research, production and marketing teams.

From the outset, we provide new hires with a comprehensive package of information to help orient them within Agilent, including information about our salary and benefits packages, sports facilities and social events, and the company's profile around the world. We assign all our new hires a “buddy” to help them through their first few months in the company.

After your trial period, your manager will sit down with you to agree your development needs, which will then form the basis of a talent development action plan. Typically, this will include a mixture of online learning, coaching, skills development outside the company and learning specific processes on the job. As part of your annual performance assessment, your training and development needs will be re-assessed by your manager and a fresh plan drawn up for the next year.

After a few years, successful graduate hires will be identified as management material and sent on the “Managing@Agilent” course. This two-day course covers the basics of personnel managers and is designed for those beginning their careers as managers. To compliment this management training, continuous professional development in scientific subjects is also available where there is a proven need for the delivery of a project, such as new software languages, new engineering techniques and other areas.

For those who are recognised as potential leaders, Agilent offers multi-day leadership development opportunities later in people's careers. Throughout your career at Agilent, learning and development opportunities are available on-line, with self-assessment and automatic testing available.

Case Study
Chris Bell is a twenty-four-year-old graduate from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh who achieved an MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering before joining Agilent as a Research and Development Engineer in June 2005, working on the development of new test and measurement products that contain cutting edge board-level design work in both digital and analogue electronics.

“The working atmosphere is great and although very professional in their roles, my colleagues are sociable and very friendly so there's always an opportunity to have a laugh with my colleagues.”
