CHAPTER TWO:

Identifying your skills
Why not list out all the skills you feel you have on a sheet of A4. These can be anything you think relevant, however to be a bit more helpful (which after all is what this section is supposed to be) why don’t you have a read of the following bit.

• You're looking for particular knowledge and experience that might differentiate you from a lot of other candidates in the market
• Do you have skills in statistical analysis maybe and also knowledge in market analysis perhaps?

What you are trying to create is a skills audit to find out more about you. Once you have exhaustive list of skills rate them on the matrix below. This will help you define your strengths and weaknesses. It will also help you identify if there are any areas where you are particularly strong compared to your mates at Uni. These strong characteristics are the things which will help sell you. The weaker scores are where you can develop and create activities where you can demonstrate improvement in the weaker areas. Highlight the areas where you are strong and other areas where you are able to improve quickly these can for the basis of your CV (which we will come to later)

• Your ambitions
• Work Experience
• What are employers looking for?
• Match?
