CHAPTER THREE:
The Graduate Recruitment Calendar
What we tend to find is that the recruitment season catches a lot of graduates out . For some graduate roles and companies there is a season, which means that there is a set duration for accepting applications. If this window is missed a graduate jobseeker will not be able to apply again to a specific company for another 12 months.
For many companies the recruitment season runs as follows:
- September - applications open
- October - applications open
- November - applications open
- December - applications open
- January - applications open
- February - closed scanning and filtering
- March - assessment and offers
- April - assessment and offers
- May - possible re-open top up
- June - possible re-open top up
- July - review
- August/September - graduate start
So don't miss the boat. Give yourself a reasonable chance by getting your application to a prospective employer in the first place. The period September - January of your final academic year is often crucial. This DOES NOT APPLY to all recruiters but you'd be surprise how many it does apply to - particularly larger organisations with established graduate training schemes.
Applying in your final year what with all the other pressures to contend with may seem unachievable which is understandable. The purpose of this is to inform you that this is the policy for many companies. It’s up to you what you decide to do with the information. Lots more graduate employers are recruiting all year round but it’s worth checking to make sure you don't miss any real opportunities.
