CHAPTER FOUR:

Getting out there! get your cv together

What is a CV?
Your CV is in a nut shell your first opportunity to sell yourself - take it! Sell yourself to an employer with the skills and aspirations that you have identified in the previous exercises. Think of it as the label communicating brand values on the tin of beans (that’s you!)

Like all great written advertising communication, your CV should aim focus on two key elements:

  • brilliant content
  • excellent presentation

In other words, every word that you write counts and there is no room, or excuse, for poor presentation or spelling mistakes. You should put your most recent achievements (academic or personal) first as an employer doesn’t want to have to scan through the whole thing before finding out what University you are at or what your predicted grades are. Make is simple and easy to read, you don’t want to make their life harder by making them search out information. Remember you only have two pages (it shouldn’t be any longer under any circumstances) so the ability to be succinct is vital.
